Parliamentarian of the Year

As a barrister, Patricia Scotland not only was the youngest person to take silk since William Pitt the Younger, she was also the first black woman.Ìý

She was set to score a similar first when the Tories lined her up to be a high court judge.Ìý But before that could happen, the Prime Minster spotted his fellow lawyer’s prodigious talents and appointed her to the House of Lords.Ìý

Now she is a minister in the ±«Óãtv Office and she has just been awarded the coveted award of Parliamentarian of the Year at the Political Studies Association Awards in London. Martha talks to Baroness Scotland about her “outstanding contribution" as a Minister of State.Ìý
