Assessing the government's spending plans for childcare.

When Gordon Brown announced the government's spending plans for the next three years, he made clear that young children would be a priority.

Nursery education will be extended to two year olds in a pilot scheme in 500 areas. There willÌýbe 2500 children's centres with the aim of oneÌýfor every community in Britain. In all, the Chancellor said there'd be 120,000 new childcare places by 2008.
