Poison garden: Alnwick Castle 11ÌýMay 2006
Jane, Duchess of Northumberland has been given permission to grow cannabis, magic mushrooms and opium poppies in her garden at Alnwick Castle. Along the borders will be strychnine, deadly nightshade and hemlock. It's part of a Poison Garden, the first in the country, and it will flourish under the watchful eye of the local drugs squad. The garden has 24 hour security with some plants kept permanently behind bars.

Jill Hopkins meets the Duchess and the keeper of poison plants, Alison Harmer.
