What to eat on a first date? 19 Feb 2010
spaghetti bolognese
Negotiating the menu when you’re hoping to impress.

You might think that selecting from a menu is one of the simple pleasures in life but how much trickier does it instantly become when you‘re out on a first date? The matter of cost, dexterity between dish and mouth, even your choice of dishes, potentially all build up an impression with the person opposite you. New research reveals that young women out on a date most often opt for salad. Men by contrast don’t appear to alter their eating habits at all. To discuss the menu pitfalls of negotiating a first date, Jenni is joined by Hannah Betts who writes The Times column for singletons, and by freelance music journalist, Dan Cairns.
