Food
Apples 3ÌýOctober 2006
It'sÌýharvest time for apple growersÌý- but it can still beÌýdifficult to find some of the old varieties of English apple. All the romantic sounding onesÌýlike Early Victoria, Cockpit Improved and Reverend Wilks are disappearing from our shops.

When Tango Fawcett married a farmer and moved into his family farm near Tadcaster she found she was mistress of her very own ancient orchard. It hadn't beenÌýnurtured for years, soÌýshe has revived it and now the apple trees are enjoying a new lease of life, as is theÌýmulberry tree which is several hundred years old.

Lesley Hilton went to meet her.
