Ian Skelly

Ian Skelly has been a familiar voice on Radio 3 for more than 25 years, covering everything from very early music to the work of cutting edge contemporary composers. He works regularly with the ±«Óãtv’s orchestras, as well as hosting live concerts on Radio 3 given by the world’s top orchestras and soloists.

Born in Manchester, Ian grew up in West Lancashire and began working as a reporter at the ±«Óãtv’s famed Pebble Mill complex in Birmingham. He quickly became a presenter and worked on several ±«Óãtv local radio stations in the East and West Midlands, hosting their daily news breakfast shows. He also enjoyed occasional stints as a television reporter in Birmingham and Nottingham, but with music always central to his life, Radio 3 was his ideal home when he made the move to London.

Ian is also an award-winning travel writer for The Observer and an internationally published author. He has made short films in the UK, Canada, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and spent a fascinating few months as a film producer in Hollywood. He has written and produced documentaries on the arts and music for Radio’s 3, 4, the ±«Óãtv World Service and for NBC television in America.
