James 'Jimmy' Tyler is well-known within the Loyalist community and well-known to the police. He and his wife Liz were receiving therapy from Paul Spector in to help them cope with the loss of their son Daniel, who died at the age of ten from meningitis.

Liz is now in a refuge, a secret location, and has no contact with husband Jimmy. Tyler holds Spector responsible for the breakdown of his marriage and suspects him of having had some kind of affair with his wife.
