Alison Bender: ‘I felt I had to keep my miscarriages a secret’

Sports broadcaster Alison Bender has opened up about feeling “incredibly alone” after having two miscarriages. Speaking for the first time on radio about her experiences, Alison told Radio 5 Live’s Tony Livesey she felt she “had to keep them a secret” after fearing her job would be at risk.

She felt she couldn’t tell her work colleagues as she “didn’t want to jeopardise her career: “I just carried on with life, I felt like I had to.”

Alison is hoping that opening up and sharing her experiences will help “the subject not to be quite so taboo”.

The One Show presenter Alex Jones also recently shared her own story, revealing she appeared on TV just an hour after learning she’d had a miscarriage.

Miscarriage Association offer support to anyone affected by pregnancy loss. They have a website and also a helpline, which you can contact on 01924 200799.
