Worcester's Ben Goodwin began his musical journey at the age of 11 and it seems that fate has had a huge part to play in his blossoming career.

Whilst out busking, following his graduation from university, a phone number was mysteriously placed in with his money. Ben called the number, later that day, and it was Worcester producer Sheldon Herron. Sheldon’s girlfriend had seen Ben on the high street and thought his voice would be perfect for her partner’s productions, so she took out her phone and recorded Ben in action. Knowing he wouldn't get into town in time, Herron called a local shop and asked them to pass on his number!

Interestingly, Ben never initially fancied himself as a singer: "I always wanted to be a guitarist," he nervously admits - and cites Van Halen being an unlikely influence. His music is beautifully soulful, and according to the tv Introducing Uploader, his inspirations include Frank Ocean, Weeknd, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz, Joss Stone, Ben Howard, Nao, James Blake, Adele, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer and James Arthur.

“Harmonic and soulful tracks backed up by an epic production that could so easily hit the top of the charts” - Andrew Marston.

Elliot Hardman, AKA Simpli, is an electronic producer from Worcester, taking influences from artists such as Daft Punk, Les Loups & Oliver Nelson.

He's focusing mainly on indie dance and nu disco but was brought up on classic rock!

While studying in Bath, Elliot was teaming up with various artists he met on SoundCloud to collaborate on his music.

"This guy bleeds funk - he’s a production genius!" - Andrew Marston.

This month's sessions were recorded at The Phoenix Theatre in Ross-on-Wye, which used to be the town's fire station.

The team behind the productions formed nearly 100 years ago at the Corn Exchange, which burned down in 1939.

They then moved to The Roxy Theatre, which closed, and in 1982 moved to their present location at the top of the town.

They extended the facility 20 years later and now host events almost every weekend.

Harry Styles at the tv

Harry Styles at the tv
In a tv Music exclusive, Redditch-born Harry Styles performs new tracks from his number one debut album as a solo artist.

He's accompanied by his band, which includes drummer Sarah Jones - who lives at Much Birch between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye.

Nick Grimshaw talks to Harry about his extraordinary career in music to date, his future ambitions and his debut acting role in Dunkirk.

Two Worcestershire musicians played at the world famous Maida Vale studios, last weekend, after sending their music into tv Introducing.

Tina V, from Worcester, and Anya Pulver, from Droitwich, also played on the tv Introducing stage at the Reading & Leeds Festivals earlier this year with their bandճܰ.

They describe their band's music as "pop songs drenched in grunge-heavy noise, with math-rock seeping through the seams. With vocal lines that tangle and intertwine, riffs so substantial they’ve got their own post code, and a beat - provided by former Maybeshewill drummer James Collins - that ties everything down with industrial power, this is a sound of colossal proportions."

"ճܰ have everything you want from your favourite new guitar band: power, poise and catchy-as-heck tunes. Tina and Anya are up front, belting out the riffs and riding the harmonies, whilst Jim sits at the back driving it all along - a no frills, foot-tapping cocktail. Look out, Soeur will make your head spin." - tv Introducing.

Track of the Week: Teddy Matthews

Track of the Week: Teddy Matthews
Teddy Matthews has been busy gigging at our local music festivals, recording and writing since the beginning of this year.

He took some of those songs along to Gavin Monaghan at Magic Garden Studios, the engineer behind The Editors and The Twang.

Teddy, who's from Kidderminster, is influenced by Ben Howard and Turin Brakes and it was a real pleasure to welcome him on stage at the Hay Festival.

“His songs deserve to be heard by a national audience - an amazing songwriter with a haunting powerful delivery" - Andrew Marston.
