The invention of the electricity generator

Mark Miodownik explores the scientific achievements of Michael Faraday. Faraday realised that mechanical energy needed to be transformed into a more useful form. He was not an engineer, but a scientist, and in the 1820s, he conducted a number of revolutionary experiments at the Royal Society in London. Faraday’s idea’s built upon the work of Alesandro Volta and Hans Christian Oersted. He linked their ideas of motion and magnetism to produce the first electrical generator.
