Bed blocking in Kent hospitals has risen sharply in the last year

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Bed blocking in Kent's hospitals has risen by nearly 60 percent in a year, at a cost to the NHS of more than £4.5 million. One Kent GP says vulnerable patients kept in hospital because there is nowhere else suitable for them to go are at risk of getting further illnesses, and not enough money is being spent on district nursing care.

This has always been an issue for the NHS but for the first time we can now see the trends across a year in Kent's hospitals. Bed blocking happens when a hospital patient is medically fit to go home but there is no home or support fit to go to (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

Three towns in Shepway go to the polls today, to vote on changes to parking regulations in Folkestone, Sandgate and Hythe.

The Council wants to abolish some free parking and introduce parking permits, but some local residents are not happy, so a referendum has been called (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).

In just seven months time they will be at the centre of the world's attention.

For a few minutes each, eight and a half thousand people will get the chance to carry the Olympic Flame around the UK.

Later this morning the lucky few will find out if they have been selected.

50-year-old Genny Jones from Gravesend is hoping to be one of them (06:40 and 08:48).
