The making of an officer of the British Army

As the radio broadcasts the death of another young officer in Afghanistan, a new intake of cadets drives through the gates of RMA Sandhurst. The Commandant speaks on the essence of leadership. Tearful farewells are made as they start their new life in the army.

We meet individuals in the new Alamein Company and accompany them on their first days in barracks and on exercise. The cadets speak about their reasons for joining the army and what they expect.

The harshness of the regime takes its toll and cadets experience the force of the army’s intolerance of failure. Not all cadets will make it through. For one it is too much, identified as weak and ineffectual, he leaves. Those remaining are back on parade.
