In Manchester, he meets Angel Moore - a florist turned dog groomer. Having set up the business last year in the depths of the recession, his small venture is booming. Could the secret to Angel's success be his unique approach? In addition to luxury shampoos and dog snacks, Angel offers the ancient healing art of reiki - for dogs.

While in London Kerstin Rodger's is one of a growing army of part-time female entrepreneurs. She runs a restaurant from her two bed flat and publicises her events through her Twitter and her food blog. Kirsten believes the internet and social networking have been absolutely central to the success of her small business. She has also put on a farmers market for 200 people.

Doug Richard, business guru and former Dragon's Den star believes it is small businesses who hold the key to the recovery of the British economy.
