Sally Phillips and Jim Howick read David Nicholls' novel, following two isolated and lonely people who are thrown together by the endeavours of a mutual friend who believes they both need to 'get out more.' A long weekend walking in the Lake District turns into a rain-lashed, and wuthering journey across the valleys and moorlands of some England's most spectacular countryside.

Marnie is a freelance copy editor, spending most of her days alone in her south London flat. After a disastrous marriage in her early twenties, romance and companionship seem to have passed her by. Now in her late 30s she feels it is unlikely that she will ever meet someone.

Michael is still reeling from his wife's departure, increasingly reclusive, taking himself on long, solitary walks across the moors and fells. He teaches Geography at the same Yorkshire school as Cleo who is an old friend of Marnie's. It is Cleo's bright idea to bring together a small group of people in the second half of the Easter holidays to enjoy a few days walking in the glorious Cumbrian landscape.
