Edinburghâs Religious Treasures
Claire McCollum discovers some of Edinburghâs fascinating religious places with a tour of some of its oldest churches to see why and how they inspire our faith to this day.
Claire McCollum finds out what makes Edinburghâs religious buildings and history so special with a tour of some of the cityâs churches to see why and how they inspire our faith to this day. She visits St Cuthbertâs Church, believed to be the oldest Christian site in the city before taking a walk up to the world-famous castle and Edinburghâs oldest surviving building, St Margaretâs Chapel. There she hears from members of a guild who maintain the chapel with fresh flowers and have a very unique membership criterion.
On the edge of the city, Claire uncovers the story of the capitalâs own âsecret gardenâ in the grounds of an ancient church and how it creates a sense of peace and spirituality.
And back in Edinburghâs Old Town, Claire discovers some of the chapels and churches linked to one of the most influential people in Scotlandâs Christian history, John Knox, who changed the face of Christianity in the country with the Scottish Reformation.
