Calon Lân

The song Calon Lân has a simple message that a pure, good heart is worth more than all the riches of the world. Why does the hymn mean so much to the people of Wales - and beyond?

Calon Lân is Wales' second National anthem. Its message - that a pure, good heart is worth more than all the riches of the world - made it the perfect keynote song for the great Welsh Religious Revival of 1904-5 and, over a century later, it's still sung with passion on the rugby terraces in Wales and is a staple hymn of every Welsh chapel and choir.

2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Daniel James (1848-1920) - the man behind the inspirational words of Calon Lân. In this programme for Welsh Language Music Day we’ll bring James' fascinating and poignant story to light. We’ll also hear what it is about Calon Lân that captures the hearts of so many - from Wales to Wisconsin.

Join us as we celebrate the poet and his hymn.
