A spiritual comment and prayer to begin the day with Brahmacharini Shripriya Chaitanya, a novice Hindu monk and teacher

Good morning.

The Ramayana is a Hindu epic depicting the life of Rama, an incarnation of God whose purpose is to demonstrate the ideal way of life, dharma. In it, there is a particularly charming episode: Rama walks through the city where he is to be married. As he moves through the city, he appears differently to the person who sees him; to a mother, he appears as a beloved son; to a soldier, he appears as a most fearsome warrior; to a child, he appears as her best friend.

In God’s infinite creation, there are many lessons to be learnt, wonders to be discovered. In God’s infinite wisdom, we have the freedom to choose which lesson to learn, which wonder to discover. God does not decide for us how we should see the world, nor indeed how we should relate to God.

We have the freedom to choose what to learn and how to view the world and yet, we are living in a world where the dissemination of information is happening increasingly rapidly. More is available, but this doesn’t mean we are more knowledgeable, especially when the effect of that knowledge is to lead us farther away from ourselves.

Let us pray for the ability to see things in the right way, to learn the right lessons for our own growth, and that our vision and the lessons we learn may bring us closer to ourselves and to God.
