Wales' Data Powerhouse

Rory Cellan-Jones discovers more about the physical and environmental impact of our wasteful data ways, exploring if we should be thinking more about what's being saved online.

Every day, millions of megabytes are wasted by people who save unwanted files into the cloud. They hit sync on their laptop or smartphone and, often without much thought, transfer documents, photos and videos to online storage so they can free up space on their devices. In doing so, data centres containing thousands of servers are becoming digital waste grounds.

Rory Cellan-Jones discovers more about the physical and environmental impact of our wasteful data ways, exploring if we should be thinking more about what's being saved online.

Because, as Rory discovers, the cloud isn't in the sky - it's in Newport.
