Following her documentary, The Welsh Women of Patagonia, which explored whether Welsh women in Patagonia were the first in the world to get the vote, writer and broadcaster Sian Harries now investigates whether Wales itself was more progressive than England when it came to women’s rights.
She asks if Wales really has been more enlightened as a nation, were Hwyl Dda's celebrated 'laws for women ' really what they're cracked up to be and did the formidable ‘Welsh Mam’ really exist or is their supposed power just a form of exaggerated nostalgia?
In her personal journey of discovery she talks to academics including Deirdre Beddoe and politicians including former MP Sian James and sitting Welsh Assembly member Bethan Sayed.
