With tensions running high at the Vic, will Stan be able to repair his family with a trip down memory lane? Phil is shocked when he wakes to find an intruder in his house.

Sharon and Phil are asleep when their bedroom bursts open – it’s Dean, he’s broken in. He chucks Phil some money and tells him to deal with only him from now on. Later that morning, Shirley sees Phil on the Square who tells her what Dean’s done. She can’t help but feel pleased that Dean came through for her.

Later, Phil turns up at Blades and tells Dean that he better keep making payments and to stay away from his family. Shirley is disappointed when Dean later furiously tells her that him paying Phil was to protect him and his business, it wasn’t for her. Dean tells Mick how Shirley stole from him to pay Phil and questions why; does Phil have something over her? Dean storms off and the rest of the family persuade her not to chase him.

Linda heads in to Blades and finds Dean in tears. She comforts him and tells him that Shirley loves him but that parents sometimes get it wrong. She draws him into a seemingly maternal hug, but his hands slides down her back and he has a glint in his eye...

Nancy tells a panicked Linda that Johnny has answered his phone, but she doesn’t know where he is or whether he’s coming back. Mick heads out of the Vic; he wants to get away from all the arguing. He heads to the swimming pool and manages to get in the water, but he struggles to swim and is shocked to turn round to find Ian watching, who asks him if he’s okay. Mick morosely sits in the swimming pool changing rooms, disappointed in himself.

Ian finds him and suggests to him that the pool do adult beginner classes, but Mick is ashamed and calls himself pathetic. Ian tentatively suggests that he could teach Mick to swim. The men head back into the pool, Mick is initially reluctant, but Ian is consistently patient and with Ian’s encouragement, Mick manages to just about swim. Ian and Mick head back to the Square together in good spirits. They agree to do the same again the following day. Stan tells an upset Linda that he will take her to Johnny; he’s at Stan’s flat. Linda, Nancy and Stan turn up at Stan’s flat and find Johnny studying.

Johnny reluctantly apologises for calling Linda a bitch but tells her he’s not sorry for anything else that he said. Linda tries to get Johnny to leave with her but he ignores her. Linda angrily accuses Stan of trying to take her kids having made a mess of his own kids. He asks her to follow him and takes Linda to the pub that she grew up in; now dis-used and boarded up. Stan reminds her of the way she and Mick used to be in the pub together as teenagers. Linda is upset as she remembers her dad dying there.

She tells Stan how guilty she feels for not having been able to save him but Stan reassures her that she did all the right things and was there for him. Stan reminds Linda that he admired her for her bravery at that time. Linda purports that Stan has no idea what it’s actually like to love his children, but he doesn’t let this rile him. He tells her that he knows that she is clipping Johnny’s wings, he’s a man and isn’t a baby anymore. Linda admits that she sees saving Johnny as a way of feeling less guilty for not saving her dad.

Stan gently reminds her that she’s making Johnny hate her. On returning to Stan’s flat, he tells Linda that they are tearing it down. He and Nancy leave Johnny and Linda alone in the living room. Linda apologises; Johnny is grateful. She asks him what she’s done wrong and he explains that she doesn’t let him grow up and controls everything he does. He promises her that he loves her. Linda tells Stan that he should start packing up is stuff – he has a home with them for good if he wants it. Linda, Nancy and Johnny get a cab to Soho – where a pre-pride party is taking place.

Linda tells Johnny that Tina and Tosh are there and that Johnny might meet someone; he should go. He leaves the cab and heads into the nearest pub. Tosh and Tina have an argument and when Tosh storms off, Tina follows. Johnny catches the eye of a good looking boy outside the pub and decides to stay on his own. The boy introduces himself as Gianluca and he and Johnny agree to head to Pride together the following day.
