It's the grand opening of Dean's salon but will Shirley's actions jeopardise its future? Linda's behaviour causes Johnny to make a drastic decision.

Linda is concerned about how stressed Johnny is about his re-sits and tells him to take a break, before leaving the room to take a mysterious phone call. Shirley sees Dean and asks him if he’d mind her coming to the opening of Blades– he insinuates he doesn’t by telling her it’s at 3.30. In the Vic, Billy tells Mick that he’s got a £20 sponsor – which makes him and Linda even more nervous.

Linda comes downstairs dressed up and claims she is off shopping but instead meets Johnny’s tutor, Hugh Thompson at Joanna’s café. Linda tells him that Johnny has never failed at anything – there must have been some mistake, were his papers mismarked? Tina helps Dean set up Blades over a shift at the café and tells him she will call in sick for him. She assures Dean that Shirley will be along later. Mick heads to the swimming pool and hesitates by the edge. He eases himself in and is terrified. After getting to waist length, he gets scared and gets out of the water. The opening of Blades has a good turnout.

As Dean is doing his speech – Shirley comes in. She tells him how impressed she is with the place and that she is really proud of him. Before she leaves, Shirley clocks Dean putting a wad of cash in a lockbox. Later, Shirley gives Phil the only money she can scrape together, but he’s not satisfied and tells her he wants a thousand pounds by the end of the day. When Shirley tells Dean to give her a hug for being so proud of him, she fishes in his pocket and retrieves his keys for Blades. Shirley lets herself into Blades and unlocks Dean’s cash deposit box, but Dean has entered and sees the whole thing. Shirley insists it’s just a loan but Dean isn’t having any of it. Shirley explains that it is Phil’s money in Blades and admits to Dean how demanding he is being. Back at his place, Phil finds the bag that the gun was in, empty and in the bin – he assumes that Ronnie has taken it.

However, Sharon has put the gun and stored it in her chest of drawers. The karaoke afternoon in the Vic is in full swing. Johnny’s phone goes and he heads out to take the call. He comes back in fuming– it was his tutor who told him that Linda went to see him. Johnny is riled and hands Linda the microphone to sing ‘Candle in the Wind’. Linda is awful and humiliates herself in front of the whole Vic. Afterwards, Linda heads upstairs and finds Johnny –he tells her she’s awful and can’t sing. He admits he sent her up there to humiliate her, just like she humiliated him with his tutor. Their argument escalates and when Nancy and Mick try to calm the situation, Johnny calls Linda a bitch, before storming out.

Nancy finds Johnny stewing outside and agrees with him that he went too far but that a lot of what he had to say was valid. He storms off, telling Nancy to leave him to it. Later, Nancy rushes in to Linda and Mick, asking them if they’ve seen Johnny; there’s stuff missing from his room and his phone is off. Johnny, with a bag full of his things heads into the tube station and out of Walford....

Alfie arrives back on the Square in Terry’s cab – Terry is concerned and has decided that Alfie using his cab to make some extra cash isn’t a good idea ; they can’t risk it any longer. Alfie is scraping together money to pay Aleks who tells him that rent has to be full and on time. He offers Alfie another week, but with £50 interest. Terry oversees this exchange and tells Alfie he’ll give him a hand on the stall. Later, Terry and Alfie are dressed up as ladies, and are flogging stock. Aleks catches them and tells Terry he can’t help Alfie – he doesn’t have a licence. When he goes to apologise, Alfie walks in on Aleks is in the market office – shouting at someone on Skype in Latvian.

He slams his laptop shut and screams at Alfie to get out. Aleks finds Roxy in the café who tells him that Ronnie has told her she doesn’t trust him. He tells her she needs to make up her mind about him herself. Later, Roxy finds out Aleks in the Vic and tells him that she does trust him.;Alfie clocks this exchange. Aleks heads over to Alfie and they agree that Alfie can have his extra week to pay rent if he keeps quiet about what he saw in the Market Office.
