Are council works right to strike over pay?

As council workers stage a second strike over pay, Graham Stewart asks whether their demands are justified during these tough economic times?

Up to 150,000 council staff in Scotland are staging the second 24-hour strike over pay in two months. It comes after the rejection of an amended offer from local authority umbrella group Cosla to change the 2.5% pay offer from three years to one year. The unions are calling for a 5% increase in line with inflation, but is this unreasonable when many workers in the private sector will be lucky to get much more than 2%? Or is it about standing up for your rights when you see those at the top awarding themselves inflation-busting pay increases?

Graham Stewart takes your calls, texts and emails.
