Ourboretum

In 2020 we called on you to plant and grow 2,020 trees. Our efforts are about the right tree in the right place for the right reason, growing a virtual arboretum across Gloucestershire.

Plant and grow 2,020 trees in 2020

Whether planting in a pot at home, pots at school, work pots, group pots, club pots, allotment pots, business pots, college pots, more than 150 people and groups went potty for trees to help replace the dying ash species.

This campaign features three species of tree which thrive in Gloucestershire: oak, beech and hazel. Take a look at the FAQ for the finer details.

While our seeds are growing into saplings, our expert partners will be working to identify areas across Gloucestershire for our young trees to be transplanted to live and grow - where they are wanted and needed - into the future.

Why are we doing this?

Almost 90% of ash trees in Gloucestershire will be dead within the next few years, according to experts. This is due to the incurable ash dieback fungal disease.

Ash are the third most common trees in the county, so this is expected to have a devastating impact on our landscape and wildlife.

What can we do about it?

Grow and plant more native trees from seed. This campaign features three species of tree which thrive in Gloucestershire: Oak, Beech and Hazel.

We’d love to see your progress. Upload any videos and images of your efforts and what catches our attention could go on air or on ±«Óãtv digital platforms.

Email trees@bbc.co.uk to send any audio, videos and photographs of your progress.

Together, we plant and grow 2,020 trees in the year 2020.
