Winners

Climate Tales was launched by ±«Óãtv Radio Scotland in March 2021 to allow children to write short stories, poems, monologues, raps; whatever form they enjoyed to tell us about their hopes, fears frustrations and opinions on climate change, and write their works in under 500 words.

We received hundreds of entries from across Scotland and every single one was read by librarians, from our partners at Scottish Library Information Centre, across the summer.

The winning stories were chosen by our expert judging panel including children’s writer Anne Fine; poet and children’s author Dean Atta; writer and broadcaster Janice Forsyth; Len Pennie, a Scots spoken word artist and poet; CBeebies presenter Rory Crawford and athlete and television presenter JJ Chalmers.

In each of the categories (5-9 years, 10-13 years, 14-16 years) the judges awarded a Gold, Silver and Bronze award.

Everyone also received a Climate Tales bag filled with books!

The Gold winners also had a workshop in ±«Óãtv HQ in Glasgow with author Ross McKenzie to find out more about how books are published, what it’s like being an author and his best tips for writing.

All finalists’ entries featured in a special radio and television show for the grand final.

You can listen to the Climate Tales radio programme hosted by Kaye Adams on ±«Óãtv Sounds or watch it on iPlayer.
