Radio Scotland reaches one million weekly listeners

±«Óãtv Radio Scotland has notched up its highest audience numbers for four years, with the station reaching more than a million listeners a week.

The latest report by RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research) shows the station has a weekly reach of 1,045,000 listeners.

In percentage terms, Radio Scotland's reach is at 24%, the station's share of the audience is 9.2% and each listener tunes in for an average of 7.3 hours per week.

The figures cover the period from late September last year until March of this year and early analysis of the data suggests the station made gains in the weekday morning schedule.

The report also shows that the strong performance was sustained beyond the period of the severe weather at the turn of the year when huge numbers turned to Radio Scotland for the latest twists and turns of one of the biggest stories of the winter.

Jeff Zycinski, Head of Radio at ±«Óãtv Scotland, said the outstanding audience figures reflected the station's high quality output across a variety of genres including news, sport, documentaries, drama, comedy and music.

"We're all delighted by this set of figures and it looks like listeners have responded well to our new daytime line-up of Gary Robertson, Kaye Adams, Fred MacAulay and John Beattie.

"To have more than a million listeners every week – a quarter of the adult population in Scotland – is a great privilege and responsibility."
