Saint-Sa毛ns once mused that the opening of his Third Piano Concerto was inspired by the sound of a river. An engaging and fascinating work 鈥� whilst not as often performed the most famous second or fifth 鈥� it is still an original addition to the repertoire.
We also hear music from Ravel鈥檚 beguiling ballet suite Ma M猫re l'Oye (Mother Goose). Inspired by the fairy tales of Charles Perrault, Ravel鈥檚 piece began life as a piano duet before developing into an orchestral ballet score. Charmingly delicate and luxurious in sound and elegance, it鈥檚 full of the warmth of childhood fantasies.
