Verdi’s Requiem starts and ends with a whisper, but what a range of drama in between: the violence of the ‘Dies Irae’, the astonishing brass in ‘Tuba Mirum’ and the joyful dance of the ‘Sanctus’…all the power and craft of an Italian Romantic opera in one condensed, emotional narrative.
