About This Event
The ±«Óătv National Orchestra of Wales crosses the Severn from its Cardiff base in the company of the Norwegian- American conductor Joseph Swensen â well known to British listeners for his successful period at the head of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The programme consists of three familiar masterpieces of the Romantic era. The First Suite from Griegâs music for Ibsenâs play Peer Gynt includes the well-known âMorning Moodâ and âIn the Hall of the Mountain Kingâ. Rachmaninovâs Second Piano Concerto would deserve its universal popularity even if had not been plundered for the film Brief Encounter. We can expect an authentically Russian interpretation from Yevgeny Sudbin, hailed by the Daily Telegraph as possessing âthe touch of a true masterâ and by Piano magazine as an artist âwho seems destined to take his place among the electâ. Tchaikovskyâs passionate last symphony, the PathĂ©tique, provides a perfect close to the evening and to this yearâs Mozartfest.
