Newport singer gets a boost from ad music

, a Newport-based singer who performs his own material and on demos for some of the world's best-known songwriters, is in the spotlight this month thanks to Skoda using his song Bluebird in an advert.
, Hooper explained, "I recorded that song about five years ago and I remember about two years ago it was used in the Uma Thurman film The Accidental Husband.
"Then about three weeks ago I was lying on my sofa and it just came on the Skoda ad. Since then my phone hasn't stopped ringing and my e-mail inbox is constantly full. I'm having to work the song into my shows because it's so popular right now."
Hooper's musical taste and singing style led him into the big band circuit from an early age, and he presented shows on ±«Óãtv Radio 2 and Radio Wales. He has performed with the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Tom Jones, and regularly meets up with Hal David - Burt Bacharach's songwriting partner - to record new songs as demos.
"I've been a professional singer all my life, but I've never been as busy as I am now or doing things this diverse. I'm very honoured to be working with these legends," said Hooper.
His big band is touring the UK's arena venues with Strictly Come Dancing this year.
