Lust for Live: Aber Uni gig with Slow Club, Race Horses, and Who Saw Who

I'm on the train, fresh from the In The City conference in Manchester, and gliding through Welsh countryside in glorious autumnal colours.
Initially stepping out in Aberystwyth was a little surreal. Manchester's large towering buildings were a long way behind us and Aber's small but bustling town centre felt like a world apart: the hills, the fresh sea air, the pastel painted sea front, and enough students to bring a bit of life to a sea side town. It was fun to be back here, with a ±«Óãtv Introducing gig in tow.

First up were Aberystwyth band , currently creating quite a scene in Aber. They've got an intense following, and have a real buzz about them, as well as being energetic, and really cutting edge. Its jaunty, edgy indie at its best, and Lucy as lead singer is a prowling star. They've got gigs further afield on the horizon, and things are looking pretty exciting for the band - Keep an eye out for them.
Next up, local heroes , (still sometimes known as 'formerly Radio Luxembourg') are forging ahead with a whole slew of new songs, and as tight, ambitious, imaginative as ever with their sound.
Headlining tonight are Sheffield duo Charles and Rebecca aka ,Ìý who were a bit daunted by the journey up from London to Aber, but embraced the occasion and were soon won over by the Aber enthusiasts at the front of the gig! Rebecca even attempted some Welsh live from stage. Slow Club are sexy, fun, lively, beautiful, sad, dry, and overwhelming. I've seen them a few times now and each time is a delight.

It was also encouraging to hear and see how much excitement there was for live music and a real attempt to make something happen in Aber, which granted is off the beaten track in terms of a gigging circuit. The student Live Music Society are seeing record numbers at their gigs, the student radio Bay Fm, are about to start recording events, and in Min Witts there's a character whose commited to putting on great nights at the Obscura Events at the top of Constitution hill. What a venue and location.
