The story of a rock and roll swindle by Welsh band The Alarm is set for the silver screen, with open auditions for parts in the film due to take place in Rhyl later this week.

The band, led by frontman Mike Peters, staged a coup in 2004 by releasing a single, 45 RPM, fronted by a supposed up and coming teenage band The Poppyfields.

The Alarm

The fresh-faced youngsters were nothing but a front for the band who were planning their comeback; the hoax was a comment on how image dictates record sales in the present day - and how image-obsessed DJs were unlikely to play the single if it was released by the ageing rockers.

The ploy was successful, as the song reached number 28 in the charts after considerable airplay. It was a taster for the new Alarm album, In The Poppy Fields, which was released in April 2004.

Now the story is to be turned into a film, called Vinyl, which will be partly shot in Rhyl. The filmmakers are still casting and there will be at Rhyl Pavilion.

, it is believed that filming will begin on 6 August and continue until the first week of September.
