Bangladesh Tigers come of age
Guyana - A World Cup that has been short on fun was revived by a massive shock as Bangladesh completed a on a steamy day at the Providence stadium.
Seasoned observers whopped with incredulity while a large Easter-holiday crowd (including vast swathes of schoolchildren bussed in en mass) celebrated the triumph of David over Goliath.
Perhaps though, when we look back in years to come, this result will be considered the day the Tigers reached maturity in the international arena.
All the pieces were in place heading into what could be their last-ever upset victory.
Bangladesh were coming into the tournament despite being one of the nine teams that plays regularly on the international circuit.
Despite being ranked ninth in the world, they have enjoyed wins over Australia and India in the last two years.
They at the group stage with the same combination of aggressive batting and suffocating left-arm spin.
After two thrashings at the hands of Australia and New Zealand in Antigua, their move to Guyana provided a slow wicket more like home conditions and more suited to their style.
Meanwhile, South Africa had been in Georgetown for almost a fortnight, complaining openly about cabin fever, stuck in their hotel with bad weather affecting their training.
Thanks to the success of their openers through the first half of the tournament, the middle order were complaining of a lack of time in the middle, and have a reputation of struggling against slow bowling.
Bigger matches loomed for them next week in Grenada and captain Graeme Smith even talked before the game about the possibility of facing South Africa in the World Cup final.
Had Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar won the toss it could all have been different, as he admitted he would have bowled first.
As it was, his openers survived the new ball challenge posed by Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini and the middle order capitalised to the full.
Mohammad Ashraful, who hit a century in the , was again to the fore with some cavalier shot-making but also a canny ability to keep the scoreboard moving under pressure.
He found brash allies in Aftab Ahmed and Mashrafe Mortaza, whose lofted six off Makhaya Ntini formed part of the 28 runs taken in two overs from the chastened pace bowler as Bangladesh added 80 runs in the last 10.
Andre Nel looked the part, taking 5-45 in his first game of the tournament, while the rest of the attack looked flat and disinterested.
Even so, Bangladesh’s 251-8 did not look out of reach and the talk at lunch was off a difficult, but ultimately successful, run chase.
Even though Mortaza and left-armer Syed Rasel opened the bowling well, with Smith falling early, South Africa looked well set at 62-1 after 15 overs. Then the wheels fell off.
In the space of four overs, Jaques Kallis lofted Rasel to mid-on, a slower ball from Abdur Razzaq fooled AB de Villiers and Ashwell Prince was the first run-out victim of an awesome fielding side.
Even before the TV umpire delivered his verdict, Habibul Bashar and his men were dancing with joy in the middle of the pitch with victory in their sights.
Beating South Africa was good enough but the manner of their victory, bowling out a vaunted batting line-up with eight balls to spare, was even better.
There will be huge repercussions after this game. A stodgy Super 8 has been revived, with England and West Indies regaining a realistic chance of a semi-final place.
South Africa, who are criticised by their own media as intensely as England’s football team when things are not perfect, will come under heavy fire even though they are by no means out of the competition.
Bangladesh would still have to beat England and West Indies to clinch a semi-final spot but they have at least ended years of being viewed as also-rans.

Martin, it really is time that you admitted that you were premature in your comments about Bangladesh and Ireland devaluing the Super Eights, isn't it?
Those who thought that Bangladesh's qualification was a freak have some food for thought. They have now beaten India and South Africa in the space of a couple of weeks.
That race for the fourth semi-final place is getting very interesting with South Africa looking increasingly vulnerable.

This match just goes on to prove the obvious, the win against india was not a fluke neither an upset. This match confirms Bangladesh as a team with the skills and the brains to defeat bigger teams the Zimbawae and kenya. Go Bangladesh!!!

Info on the game was fed via phone (a buddy who was watching the game live) + i was hooked on cricinfo.com + listening to bangladesh local radio from toronto, canada...

I was listening to his on 5live it was 84-4 and the commentators were saying how shamed India would be to see how they were beaten by such a poor side. I spent the evening with the family, and come back to find this astonishing turn-around. Isn't Cricket great!

Shameful!!!!Shameful!!!!!! It wasn't the loss that is shameful; it was they way our glorious chokers gave up that made me physically ill. Don't come back home this time without atleast going to the semis. Otherwise it'll be my rottenest egg on Graeme Smith's swollen head at the airport. And I'll be throwing more than one.

Great match Bangla boys. Really impressed with those new fellows in the squad. And your players didn't get intimidated by the South Africans.
I really like this upset - not just because I'm a Bangladesh fan; but because now the tournament is open once more to the West Indies and England. And now, New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka have to play better to make sure they reach the semi-fianls.
This World Cup is a really freaky one - Bob Woolmer's murder, no crowds at all, Malinga getting a double-hat trick, India and Pakisan kicked out during the first round, Irish and Bangladeshis scaring the big shots. What will be in store for the rest of the tournament?

Absolutely delighted for Bangladesh - let no-one refer to them as minnows again! Excellent play, with skill, heart and panache. What on earth happened to South Africa? They seemed to lose the will to live.
This gives England a better chance too, so my hope is they turn up firing on all cylinders tomorrow; the more upsets the better for the competition!

Gentlemen - South Africa grossly under-estimated their opponent Bangladesh and became a victim of their over-confidence. Bangladesh did not have any thing to lose and therefore were focussed and determined to give their best shot. And they did it with an over to spare.

It just shows to the world how competive Bangladesh team can be in a given day. If you have good score on board, get some early wickets, anything is possible. If Bangladesh keeps the momentum, I expect to see more upsets, eventually to snick to last 4 !

The previous win by the Tigers really pleased me of course but this win over South Africa was quite the tear jerker. Regardless of the outcome, it is always enjoyable to watch the Tigers because they always play with their hearts and souls - no matter how important or not important the game is. This game was no exception! Thank you Tigers, for bringing some fresh and much needed excitement back to cricket and reminding us why we love this sport so much!

Mr. J Agnew it was I think who recently mocked Ireland and Bangladesh for shall I say "diluting" the super 8s.
Of course if England make the semis we'll all be told just how he and everyone else in England's camp were sure they would make it. And the dilution would hardly matter.
Yet Ireland and Bangladesh have shown when the playing field is even they can stand up and give the very best a run for their money.
By an even playing field I mean none of those 22 over crap shoots that I cannot understand when there is a full day reserved for carrying over a rain affected game.

Outstanding, clinical, and fascinating win by the brave and driven Bangladeshis. Cricket won today. We kept our nerve and consistantly built the pressure on the opponent. We showed the best in business and cynical critics that when the going gets tough we can be thougher as well.
As professed by Bashar repeatedly, we are capable to play consistant winning cricket and the team has delivered it with a perfect display of cricket. Way to go boys!!

After SA beat Australia in the so-called 'Game of the Century', it was heralded as the moment when South Africa stepped up and lost the choking motif that had been applied to them for so long. After today's defeat and the defeat to Australia, that optimism after that ludicrous run scoring orgy has been shown to be grossly premature. That was a horrible SA performance with the bat, utterly horrible.
England will be afraid of Bangladesh and I feel they will be more afraid to play Bangladesh than Australia. They know what the Australians will be like, they know how they play and have good recent memories of playing them. The Bangla boys though are unpredictable. England haven't played spinners too well all tournament, that was shown against Canada, and the three Bangladeshi spinners must be hoping for a pitch with a bit of turn. The English adrenaline will race against the Aussies but the nerves will be there against Bangladesh.

Tigers played excellent against South Africa.
They deserve victory over any country in the world cup cricket. Although Indian people differed with us when we defeated them in the world cup, but realty is that Tigers beat India earlier in one day international match as well. Actually Indians are not sincerely to acknowledge truth. Same way when we defeated Pakistan in 1999 in the world cup match they did not acknowledge the truth. In the mean time Bangladesh defeated Australia and Newzealand as well. I used to play professionally back in my country but recently had to move to UK and I am now playing for a club in UK and trust me still I think a lot of the Bangladeshi Players who you even haven't seen, they are far better than lot of the players who are even playing in the current World Cup.

Days have come when Bangladesh can be view not just as a giant-killer - but a team with the ability to beat any side of the world cricket on a given day.
Those complaining about lack of consistency of Bangladeshi team need to wait a bit longer to see this young tigers averaging only 23 years (a record as the youngest team playing the world cup !!) come to age and hopefully come to maturity.

Nyet! It was not a shock to many, including me. I was having an arguement with Jennifer Thompson on CricInfo's commentaries over the neglect of the "lessor" nations.
But, of course it would be shock to an Englishman used to thinking the Ashes was the Word Cup... Wake up! The Bangladeshis are here too, and give 'em a slow track and they will challenge you. They are one freaky bowler away from being a force--or they might just do it with conventional weapons, three spinners and two pacemen.
I am now really looking forward to England playing Bangladesh. Let us see if the English team can walk the talk. I do think the West Indies will also find it hard to deal with the Bangladeshis... Having played the tougher teams in the begining--India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, they are now on the home streach.

Shrewd and timely use of spin suffocating the opponents top order and panicking them into rash shots as the overs tick by - a tactic used to devastating effect against India and now once again bearing fruits.

Martin, so much for the minnows, they keep surprising us dont they? I am very happy for the Bnagladesh team , they played excellent cricket and really looked like a very good team. Their biggest weakness is the lack of experience, knowing when to selct certain shots and when not to....that will come to the youngsters as they get more games at this level... I am howvever amazed that the SA team didn't bat first and bat all 50 overs and try to up their run rate... seems they have their plot all wrong and undersestimated these fellas. They arent the frist as we all know....I am now even happier for the Windies. Now, we the local fans, only need our unpredictable fellas to wake up and see they really have a chance again ....they now need Eng to beat SA as well when they meet and then Windies will beat them both to get to the semis...cricket lovely cricket..... i do think another upset is coming, and it involves Australia, they must have one off day in 6 weeks, so I think it will be here before the final!! hurrah....the World Cup is finally coming alive~~ now let the organizers relax the rules, buy back unused tickets from Inidan and Pakistani ticket holders that arent coming to the region anymore and sell them at decent prices to thte locals and then have the West Indian crowds really come out to see the games that bthey will be paying for the rest of their lives...ICC...its now over to you...the stage has beeen set...

Brilliat performance by Bangladeshi Tigers!! They have already faced 6 teams in this WC. Except Bermuda,all the time they were considered as "minnows",or "underdogs". But they have beaten 2 of them with vigour and style and proved how foolish the people who judged them like that were. We expect Bangali Tigers to give England and WI blows just like these. Prove the world what a DYNAMITE you can be.

Mark Kidger, When asked the other day whether I had under-estimated Ireland I said they had played impressively but still needed a win to prove they belong in the Super 8.
I would have said the same for Bangladesh. I'm sure they couldn't care less what I think but I shall be having a small portion of humble pie this evening.
This is just what the tournament needed to bring it back to life.

I was quite surprised by this result but it goes on to show how far Bangladesh have come. On their day they can beat anyone as they showed with victories against India and this one against South Africa.
South Africa play the West Indies next and any slip ups there might see them lose a semi final spot that looked very much secure before this match.

Martin, thanks for that. I must admit that the pundits who have assured us that the four semi-final places were cut and dried after the first two or three matches have been premature, as are the ones, including one supposed sports correspondant who said "England have no chance [of reaching the semi-finals] because they are a piss-poor one day side".
This World Cup needed to be livened-up. Suddenly it is so much more interesting. Let's hope that tomorrow England make it more interesting still.

Bangladesh is making steady progress in developing themselves into a team to challenge the "bigger" nations.
However i question if Bangladesh can keep their progress up after the World Cup on ODIs and Test matches? Well i hope so, they have the potential to be a decent outfit and also equally has the potential to be inconsistent too.
i really admire their aggressive batting and slow/spin bowling, intelligent plays with no fear, makes good viewing!

I find it bizarre that Martin Gough has changed his tune so dramatically in recent days. It was only recently when Ireland and Bangladesh qualified that he talked about the huge damage having such 'minnows' would do to the Super Eights. Yet now he is suddenly expounding their qualities? Will he make up his mind, and decide whether minnows are a good or a bad thing, and at least accept that their presence has livened up a boring and flat super eight stage.

Thanks Martin for the nice report. Bangladesh had a point to prove and they silenced their critics in style. We are not in the super eight for making numbers. Bangladesh cricket is coming out of age and with such a young team with full of talents, Bangladesh can only prosper.

Yes, it is about a new generation. BD selectors gambled with young guns and they proved them right. Isn't life beautuful ! We do not have to root for anybody else anymore, we root for our own team. On a given day "TIGERS ROAR" and yes, we are eagerly waiting for the roars at least three times in the coming weeks to build the stage for the fourth day ! Go Bangladesh !

What a great day for Cricket! I think the World Cup really needed this (and it also helps the chances of England progressing!).
It was great watching an outstanding BD team making the no. 1 team in the world look below par. As an England fan I can honestly say that Bangladesh have become my 2nd team of the tournament. Well done the Tigers!

Well well what a game, I wonder if the likes of Michael Holding and Geoff Boycott still feel that Bangladesh should not be part of Test Cricket and the Big Show. They really have come a long way, shows what a good cricket program and coaching can do. New Zealand took a long time before they won anything so Bangladesh have done it a lot quicker. Hurrah for them and their youngsters, wathcing them is like a breath of fresh air.

All evening i have been listening to the match on 5liveRadio while delivering curry, there have been times when i almost forgot to ask for money from the customers because of the excitement i was feeling. There were times when i thought a 100+ run victory was on the card, imagine who crazy that would have been, nevertheless, im so proud of the guys today

Look, I am happy for Bangladesh and I am glad that they are proving all the skeptics wrong, but "a tiger must earn his stripes" before he is allowed in front. Happily, the Bangladeshis are on the right path.
A couple of wins against good teams, does not make them contenders, but they have upped the ante on themselves and expectations will be higher come next CWC.
They were a joy to watch in the field today. As a matter of fact this game today reminds me of a win by India against the West Indies in Berbice (Guyana) approx. 1 year before India upset the West Indies in the WC at Lords. Today, the monkey is off the Tiger's back.

Whilst my enjoyment and support of cricket means that I am pleased when lesser rated teams like Bangladesh do well (and I congratulate them and wish them well!!), I'd like to express my disgust at the biased and distasteful commentary on yesterday's South Africa/Bangladesh match. I found the continuous sledging of the South Africans (the commentators seemed to be willing them to fail) offensive and upsetting and I think that cricket deserves better than this, and will lose support if this kind of thing becomes more prevalent. Whilst commentators are entitled to their own opinions, these, particularly when they're so racist, should remain just that - their own opinions. Objective and fair reporting of the matches is all we ask for, especially on air! Yesterday's commentary was most disappointing.

3. All the Srilankan well wishers. I have many Srilankan friends and from the very beginning they have supported us. Even reading their well wishes in heaps of forums makes me feel really good. None of them labelled our win against India a fluke. I guess they can see their past (coming up to the world class level) in us. I for sure want them to lift the cup this time and bring it closer to home :)

The tigers have shown that when in sync, they can maul anyone. Now it's only a matter of experience. Although we have dominated SA and theoretically we should beat England and West Indies, I don't think that will happen. England and West Indies is very alarmed.
When we entered the Super 8s I just wanted the Tigers to win against Ireland and one big team. They have fulfilled half of my wishes. Maybe asking for another big win won't be asking for too much ;)

As a South African I am unimpressed with my team, although I can't say I'm surprised that the proteas choked again.
But all credit to Bangladesh - they deserved this. When Sri Lanka won the 1996 world cup, they had only had test status for 14 years. Come 2011, Bangladesh could be serious contenders.
Beyond the world cup, this is good for the future of cricket. The more competitive teams there are, the better. Hopefully Kenya and Ireland can also make the great leap forward soon.

Congratulations to Bangladesh, but this shouldn't be the "shock" that many think it is. They have been on an upward curve for the last couple of years and are now a much better unit than that which came to England in 2005. Yes, they are still losing the majority of their Test matches, but the margins are coming down; and theit ODI results are also better than they were.
Of course, their bowling attack lacks variation, and on a bouncy, seaming wicket they will struggle as only Mortaza has pace. But given a slow, low wicket - like yesterday's - they are in with a near-even chance against almost anyone if they bat properly.
And that was what impressed me most about them yesterday. There has been a regular tendency for their batsmen to get to 15 or 20 and then suddenly charge down the wicket and play a daft shot.
While that tendency is still there - and was displayed by a couple yesterday - it is on the decline. Talented players like Aftab and Ashraful must realise that 50 overs is quite a long time, and pace their innings accordingly. Ashraful did that yesterday, and has done it before in this WC - a sign of growing maturity.
Overall, this is a great result for cricket in general. My company has an office there and I have visited the country, and know how passionate the people are about their cricket.
If they maintain their current progress under the skilled hand of Dav Whatmore, and find another real quick bowler, they could be a very useful side in a couple of years' time.

Watched the game on the streets of Dhaka. Local knowledgable folk who know how we are developing as a side and what potential and motivation this side has are not surprised.
This side will win two more matches in the super 8's and just miss the semi finals. But in doing so, they will have proven to themselves that hard work, prepartion and committment to cricket (& not to endorsements & advertising) delivers progress.
This progress will inspire yet another generation of players younger than this side.
By the next word cup, with so many of the exisiting big sides about to undergo massive transition, this Bengal team will be very strong.

Absolutely thrilled for Bangladesh! They thoroughly deserved to win with the way they have been playing, especially being able to bounce back in such style after the big defeats to Australia and New Zealand.
Every aspect of their game was superb, the batting, the bowling and the fielding. It is fantastic what they have achieved this World Cup by beating India and now South Africa.
I am not expecting Bangladesh to progress into the semi-finals but at least now they can leave the Caribbean with their heads held high.
The side have undoubtedly learned a lot in this World Cup and will surely make them more better and experienced in the future.
The impressive aspect about the current team is their average age is just 23, with such a young side playing, who knows what could happen in the years to come with such talent, drive and motivation.

It's great to learn the superb victory of Bangladesh over S Africa. I believe, it will help Bangladesh to build up their cnfidence in big games. It is good to read about the great triumph of BD over SA in the Cricket World Cup 2007. Even though BD have some spiners, but in my view BD cricket team is short of Fast Bollers who can really frighten the opponents. There is no noted contribution from the BD Captain when team wins; like Ponting or other captains. I think he should step down, and give chance to Rafique or Mashrafi B Murtaza, both are very good allrounder.

These 'deshi boys have given something sorely lacking in this world cup. Excitement, vigour, unpredictableness - All things which make cricket such a wonderful sport to watch in the first place.
The ICC however, have unfairly robbed the Carribean of such things. I hope they finally get into touch with reality and let people experience the Carribean at the fullest without imposing unnecessary restrictions and charging laughable ticket prices. I think the heavy defeats in the first 2 games in the super 8 against the Oz and NZ had a 'kick up the backside' effect on the bangla boys. However, i still think that this team would be even more better with the addition of a good fast paced bowler a' la flintoff, pollock, vaas, etc if they had one to trouble teams when playing on a slightly faster pitch to provide back-up to the current crop of fastly maturing pace bowlers. Even after repeatedly proving its ability to play and defeat the traditional and experienced cricket players, Bangladesh has always been seen as the "fluke" that became a part of the big-boys club. England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and later Pakistan and India - they have dominated the world's cricket scene for as long as I can remember. But for the last ten years or so, Bangladesh has struggled,to become one of the very bests. And when Bangladesh was slowly progressing, crawling forward like the Bengal Tigers, no one paid any attention. They called them "minnows", playing literally out of their league. If this was American baseball, major league would have asked to send Bangladesh back to high-school softball tournaments.
Then came 2007 World Cup. Indian team, although had some phenomenal players, seemed like a group of confused children who lacked any sort of team work and strategy. And Cricket is all about teamwork and strategy. When Bangladesh team sent Indian team back home, I could feel the tension in South Asia from across the Atlantic. But I guess things would have been worse, if India left and Pakistan had stayed. (India feels a strange "brothers in arms" kinship with us, possibly for our mutual dislike for Pakistan. Nothing against the people of Pakistan though! Cricket is the religion here). As India left the match, many supporters felt that it has at least left its "lil' brother" to take on the big guys. For last few days, I have read comments from hundreds of Indian supports who want Bangladesh to kick some butt before they fall of the match.
After noticing Bangladesh's struggle against Sri Lanka and Australia, South Africa began its game with a little bit of boredom, I think. They wanted to get it over with as soon as possible, go back to the hotel and worry about their "real" competitors. Looks like fate is not without a sense of irony! The team that was labeled as the "minnows", and was looked down upon as the worst team, defeated the current number one ranking team in the world. Some called it a biblical David v. Goliath game. I disagree. David's victory was a fluke. Bangladesh's victory wasn't.
Bangladesh is known for its resilience, and its ability to surprise unsuspecting audiences. We are no quitters. Yes, we may not have been playing for last fifty or hundred years, but we are here now, demanding equal respect and fear.
SA lost today because it underestimated Bangladesh's strength, with a tinge of desperation. Bangladesh won today because it came to the field hoping to make history, like it always does. And they did! Commentators said that people will remember this match for years to come, and many apologised for calling the Tigers the "minnows".

ashraful was simply brilliant. the strokes he played were rightly labled classics and earned him the title of man-of-the-match for today's game.
by the way, did anybody watch the award ceremony? it was fun to watch G. Smith say that his boys played poorly and the tigers grabbed the opportunity with both hands.well... what does that even mean?? i hope he was not trying to say that had they been their "real" selves today, the result would have been different. i ,of course, beg to differ but certainly can relate to his frustration. poor guys!! they did not know what hit them and were still scratching their heads by the time the game ended at 48.3 ovs with all wickets down(can't be too sure if it was heads they were scratching after such a defeat though). the point is, fate had nothing to do with the result. we had done it before....pakistan....india...australia....new zealand...and now south africa...vanity can only invite ridicule in a game of strategy such as cricket and the "big boys" have played enough matches to know this simple fact by heart now.
so, behold people...the bengal tigers...it's irrelavant what they were yesterday for the world just witnessed what they are capable of today...with the youngest team( average age 23)in the super 8,we can safely say that ashraful...shakib...mashrafi....razzaq...they all have a long career ahead of them unless something drastic happens.and with them around,we just might take the cup home next time.

Great job Bangladesh! Reckon we'll go all the way to semis now. Hopefully, this gets the virulent critics of the Tigers like Mandira Bedi to finally smell the coffee and shut up. The only "minnow" I saw was India, who seem capable of only beating Bermuda.
If India go to the Bangladesh tour in May with "youngsters" and "a practice" mentality, they'll be on a hiding to nowhere. Maybe that will get them to finally invite Bangladesh to a tour of India.

MARTIN, this indeed would be a high time to apologize, as called for by others in this string, regarding your ill fated article a couple of weeks describing your desire to only enjoy games between big eight cricket nations, but the so called minnow nations, including bangladesh. in the article, you directly insulted the non-big-eight-cricket nations - bangladesh and ireland -for qualifying into s8 and depriving your great nations of india and pakistan to reach the super. i really feel this would be a golden time to show your courage and gentlemanhood to retract that view of yours.

The only thing working against BD is their inexperience in the World Cup Arena. The inconsistency in their performance is a result of bending under pressure from high expectations. They play great when the expectation is really low. Nobody can doubt their potential after this second win. 2011 WC will see a more matured and stable performance from the Tigers.

The CWC 07 has been pretty good so far over all inspite of all the limitations,restrictions & stifling of the Caribbean atmosphere by the ICC.The tournament would hve been far better supported/attended by W/Indians had it not been for the ridiculous rules by the ICC & LOCs.
It will be great for the tourney if the Windies can miraculously qualify for the semi-finals which appear very unlikely now.The Ausies batting is sensational & outstanding;but the other teams need to attack & pressurize their suspect bowling some more.They are beatable & not invincible,the other teams appear to be intimidated by them;so they are not playing them as hard as they really should.Great cricket nonetheless!Congrats to Bangladesh for an awesome win over the RSA;they really showed Windies how ODI cricket ought to be played.

Well the so called minnows have jusy taken down the S Africans, so congrats to the Bengals. Bengals have never defeated England or West Indies before. So the next couple of games will be very interesting from the Tigers and thats only if they can keep up the good team work. This is a very young team with talent, and by next two years i can guarantee everybody that the Bengals will be a big threat to all the cricket countries. Good luck tigers

Seems the minnows are the only players truely enthusiastic about this competition, even in loosing causes they are exciting to watch.
Most top teams come over as arrogant and too comfortable.

I must say, I am more than satisfied to see the young boys come out in the field so bravely even after loosing the toss to the stronger side and play their heart out. They really played supperb! Though I am very late to express my feelings but, as its said, its better late than never!
I hope that, these guys are gonna get more matured in the coming days and give all the cricket lovers the sort of joy they have provided us in their two matches against India and then South Africa.

I call BANGLADESH, a SEVEN-ELEVEN team.
Amassing the invauable experince of playing the top six teams in the WORLD CUP arena this year and cashing on them in World Cup 2011.
It is a young team with a few teenagers and in four years they should flurish and blossom.
If their victory against India was a "stroke of luck", against South Africa it certainly was the
stroke of the bat that inspired their bowlers and fielders to give their best and topple the top rank team from the pedestal.
As a Bengali, I say "Joy Bangla", in Hindi 'it would be " Jai Bangla' and Pakistani may say reluctently " Bangladesh Zindabad' All the greetings and praise TEAM BANGLADESH richly deserve.

It was more than expectation. Mohammad Ashraful, the key player of the game, who lives in the next door of mine in Dhaka, has shown again that he really deserves some unusual potential and who can rewrite the grammar of cricket.
This victory will surely help Bangladesh go ahead.

After your awful article a few weeks back about how Ireland and Bangladesh didnt deserve to be here, i boldy predicted Bangladesh would win at least 2 super 8 games. I dont agree that Martin has to apologize. He made his comments based on the facts available at that time.
Sure Bangladesh has won in the past and then also lost miserably. We all would like to see a consistent performance. Theres nothing wrong in expecting that. But at the same time the reporters should not just write off the unheralded teams. What they wished for was a boring WC.

APPEAL TO ICC PRESIDENT
ICC should rethink about Bangladesh. Because the Bengal Tigers have put some special color on the fading away super eights. Bangladesh certainly moved back lot of Asian cricket fans to the World Cup Cricket after great disappointment of India and South Africa. I appeal to ICC president to revise the upcoming tour schedules so that Bangladesh can get more opportunity for playing more tests and ODIs to shine up their performance.

this was the first match i attented on saturday in guyana. and i have to say it was amazing! i went in the stadium feeling as tho south africa would win, mainly because they are one of the highest ranked teams. but within minutes i was backing bangladesh as was the rest of the crowd.
hats off to the bangladeshi team for bringing back that cricket fever inside of me...which was kinda ripped out when WI lost like kids on April Fools day!

Bangladesh has the talent and ability to knock the balls off anybody, but i just dont understand why aren't thy consistent???
Well, before the start of WC2007, I hoped they would go a bit closer to the Cup and they did! I'm satisfied as of the moment. See them in action and lifting the cup in WC2011 :)
