On this day exactly a year ago, England clinched a famous Ashes series victory here at The Oval after a lengthy delay for bad light led to a drawn fifth Test.
And again there is a sense of anticlimax at The Oval.
Many newspapers were confident enough to name England’s Ashes captain in this morning’s editions, and have a pretty good stab at the rest of the squad.
The remaining questions have been answered by the arrival of press releases put out under embargo (so I could tell you but I would have to kill you – all of you).
Everyone else will have to wait until 1500BST, when a glitzy presentation will be put on here by Sky Sports, while ±«Óãtv Radio Five Live will also reveal the 16 men aiming to retain the Ashes.
Once again, it is a grey day in south London, with Surrey Brown Caps warming up in the nets for a Pro40 Division Two promotion clash with Gloucestershire.

I've just heard the squad and am slightly alarmed to hear so many walking wounded in it, including, as Jon Agnew said, almost all the bowlers. It sounds frighteningly like Ashes 2002/03.
Instant reaction is that I would have preferred to see Broad instead of Plunkett and Dalrymple instead of Giles, although the selectors are to be commended for their loyalty.

Hopefully the players who are selected and are not yet fully fit will be completely fit by the time the first test begins on November 23rd.

Hope all the players would be fit but imagine if the injured players failed to recover from the injury then what will happen?
