Sport Relief set for big weekend

Post categories:

Carl Doran | 17:28 UK time, Thursday, 22 March 2012

It is finally here, the preparations are virtually complete. It has been two years in the planning and this weekend will see the biggest ever Sport Relief.

Over the past few months , Helen Skelton and John Bishop have completed the most amazing Sport Relief challenges, while Frank Skinner has embarked on his own personal quest to overcome a lifetime fear of swimming.

Freddie Flintoff has astonished the world by setting 14 records in 12 hours, including achievements for Most hot dogs made in 1 minute (9) and Fastest 100 metres on a pedalo, (1 minute 58.62 seconds).

We've had members of the England football team battling it out in the Kitchen; Strictly Come Dancing going underwater and the stars of popular sitcom Benidorm coming up close and personal with Simon Cowell and the Britain's Got Talent judges.

Thre's also Frank Lampard and Fiancée Christine Bleakly appearing on TV together in a very funny sketch for Outnumbered; 20 of the biggest names in rugby limbering up to sing with JLS; World Champion Mo Farah being out-run by Misery Bear and 'tennis' star Miranda Hart embarrassing herself in front of the cream of British sport.

You can see it all in a quite incredible night of sporting entertainment starting at 1900 GMT on ±«Óãtv One on Friday.

Seeing how stars from sport, music and entertainment have been so eager to give their time for free and get involved has been heart-warming - and believe me some of the things we have asked them to do have been pretty tough - did you see Gary Lineker as the back end of a pantomime horse?! And I'll never forget explaining to Sue Barker how we wanted to create a 'double of her' for a special round of Question of Sport called 'Who Barker'.

It's not just about the celebrities of course, and over the weekend more than a million people will also be for Sport Relief. We have ±«Óãtv cameras at 17 flagship Miles across the UK, including three major Outside Broadcasts at the Mall in London and in Manchester and Glasgow.

You can watch it all unfold live on ±«Óãtv1 from 1300 BST on Sunday. My family are in training for the Manchester Mile and my youngest daughter Daisy is really going to get a glimpse of Olly Murs who'll be performing at the event!

And don't forget everybody is getting involved with Sport Relief in order to help those people who need it most, both here in the UK and in some of the world's poorest countries.

The moving appeal films we make are a powerful reminders of the reason why people do the incredible challenges, why we make the funny sketches and why everyone has been signing up for Sport Relief Miles all around the country. The money really makes a difference.

I hope you enjoy both shows and if you're running in the Mile good luck and thank you.

I just looked in to see if the listening ±«Óãtv had repented and was prepared to listen again. However this announcement has emphasised the faults. Normally I would now be immersed in the sport relief publicity, events and causes but not having used the website for more than a few seconds each day to see if the excellent old website had returned I have missed the sport relief announcements. I think an apology to those involved is required as they will have lost much of a good outlet for their worthy cause.

Well now! You guys have actually listened! I happen to be one of those who submitted your new sports website to websitesthatsuck.com as candidate for worst website of the year (a candidacy, which was featured and accepted).

However, clearly you've taken viewers' criticism on board and have made a number of substantial modifications in layout and colour(!). Yes, this is site I can live with. You've won back my readership.

Firstly good luck to all those taking part in Sport Relief this weekend, I hope tonnes of money is raised.

That said, after a month since the last post about the website, over 800 comments (many of them complaints), having to reopen comments after shutting them down and nothing is mentioned. Have the fingers well and truly gone in the ears on the points raised, or are you hoping that by ignoring the negative feedback we'll all just grow accustom, shut up and say nothing further?

Despite your appalling rudeness to users of the ±«Óãtv Sports website, I shall not sink to their level and so will contribute as generously as ever to Sport Relief. Good luck to you !

Just dropped by to see if there was any update on when the football results/fixtures where going to revert back to the usable and standard format, clearly not. The expanded league tables also still have the odd display where the total points are not on the end of the table but hidden in it.

Just seen the football results and fixtures are available in standard "day" order, (didn't see this mentioned anywhere), thank you.

What's Ben Gallop doing for comic relief, or was this website it.

    Hi All,

Took some time to let you all know that it really sucks that ±«Óãtv does not broadcast all F1 races anymore. I am from Holland and a real FAN of ±«Óãtv coverage of F1.
Now I must listen to a radio? Come on guys, what happened here?!

RTL7 in Holland covered also from the circuit all races, but was cut short on budget a view years ago. Now the commentator sits in his home in Spain to comment.

Oh my God, please come back to ±«Óãtv 1 or 2 and broadcast all qualy's and races live.
I wanna see and hear the beautiful commentary of you guys.

    Regards,
    Scott
