Nobody's Normal

Crippled Monkey | 13:09 UK time, Thursday, 7 December 2006

Look out next week for a new five part daytime series - "Nobody's Normal" showing every day from Monday 11th December at 9.15am on ±«Óãtv One.

These documentaries, produced in association with the Open University, chart the progress of families and their disabled children from pregnancy and birth through to adulthood.

The series is being supported by an Action Line number (08000 566 065) which viewers can use to get support and advice, or to request a copy of the Open University booklet that accompanies the series.

For more information, view the Open University's website at https://www.open2.net/nobodysnormal/index.html

It's ironic that at the same time as this series, there's an energetic debate going on on the Woman's Hour message board -- see the topic 'Thanks Sian Hughes'.

The debate arose from a feature WH did on the Arvon poetry prize, which was awarded to Sian Hughes for her poem grieving over her baby, aborted because she had Down's syndrome.

I'm among the parents who have written to the message board wondering why there was not even a squeak about whether this decision was problematic in terms of attitudes to disability.

See what you think --
