Upgrade Update

William Crawley | 18:09 UK time, Wednesday, 23 April 2008

The revamp of the ±«Óãtv blogs has been a great success so far. There are still some things to sort out and Aaron Scullion and his team have been noting your comments here about the odd continuing problem. Feel free to leave your suggestions in this thread.

Could you please do something about the remaining few who still cling to a belief in supernaturalism?

New system is great working well (now I know for certain whether I've posted or not !).

Howver, a couple of extras would be nice.

    (1) When you copy/paste a link the link is now dead and not active (as before) which is now a pity because:

    (2) You can't seem to copy/paste text on this blog. This means that finding a link that someone has referenced can be cumbersome as some are very long.

    (3) An editing facility would be nice.

    (4) Some sort of style facility would also be helpful i.e. quoting someones's text, as well as bold, italics, underline etc.

copying text is ok but copied url's are not active - and would't a sell seeker be a luxury?

As I pointed out on The Devenport Diaries, inverted commas appear as question marks. I think the software possibly cannot identify some other characters such as the sterling (pound) sign. Otherwise, a great improvement.

allybalder: I can't seem to copy text at all for some reason. When I try and highlight all text is highlighted. When I right hand click (to find "copy") the highlight disappears. Maybe it's some sort of copright protection.

The Panda's Thumb have quickcode for style which works quite well if you know how to use it. It took a long time for me to realise that it all had to be done manually ! Even that would be better than nothing.

The inactive links are a pain.

You're not winding me up by any chance ? (pity I can't use emotion icons either !). Definitely isn't working at this end.

    Peter Henderson,

With regard to your points 1 and 4, you can re-activate the html links manually and bold, italic encoding etc can be inserted manually as well.

It would be convenient of course if that didn't knowing basic html encoding, but for now it's at least something. Or at least I think so. Let me check

    bold
    italic

And let's see if we can do special characters

    """"" ''''''''''' ````````````

I wonder how this will show up

Hmm, no teletype. And let's see if we can get the 'and' character correct in the name of Wills blog:

    Will & Testament

Several of my posts have been 'chewed', and I suspect it relates to this formatting issue. If you post a comment and it fails to appear, check the URL bar. I had the same message every time: the comment contains invalid XML. I tried to get rid of my special characters, and tried many other things to try and get it through, to no avail. I'm not sure why this is the case, since no error message displayed in the page. I don't know much about any of this, but I think we're looking at a formatting issue more than anything.

Seems that we aren't able to list our personal websites anymore. Such a feature is useful for various reasons, I think.
