Come on Will - let's not exaggerate the crisis. There isn't one. Climates change. They always have, they always will. Are you really buying into Al Gore's retirement plan? This is just a way to keep the former Veep in the media's glare. All the best science and the best economics denies any international climate change crisis. So it's just right that Spinal Tap reform for this concert: they are about the level of seriousness that's appropriate!

Don't be daft ecorealist, the scientists are lined up with reports PROVING that this planet is undergoing utterly unnatural changes that are a result of human interference. Water levels, temperature levels, extinctions, CO2 levels ... the science is pouring in and naysayers like you are being left behind. You have buried your head in the sand (what's left of it).

Spinal Tap are over a year to late in reforming, they should have reformed last year on the 6/6/06

Ok ... somebody explain to me in simple terms: WHAT is the evidence for the climate change crisis? Why should we believe this is happening?

Fact: The earth's temperature is rising.

Fact: Atmospheric CO2 levels are rising.

Question: Is the temperature rise due to this CO2 rise or some other cause?

Data: The historical data presented by Al Gore show rising CO2 levels track rising temperatures.

Question: Do the historical data show that rising CO2 levels lag or lead rising temperature levels?

Conclusion: If rising CO2 levels lag rising temperature levels (they do) then rising CO2 levels are an effect and not a cause.

Interpret that answer for us Michael?

If you ask me we're clearly still in the MIDDLE of the process of attempting to understand the causes of climate change. Yes, I know the IPCC have issued reports definitively linking CO2 emissions with warming. But recent reports from elsewhere continue to give conflicting data, and I suggest it's foolhardy to rush into economy-devastating measures without being as sure as we can be that those measures are going to prevent a catastrophe. In my opinion, that is far from established fact.

Sensible point John. As always. Let's use science to get the answers and not jump ahead of the hard work of research. In the meantime, given the global seriousness of this, wouldn't it be prudent that governments encourage poeple to live cleaner and more energy-efficient lives JUST IN CASE!?

Oh wow, another save the planet concert. Isn't it wonderful how we have these all the time. Look at how many disasters these concerts have prevented and fixed. Anyone remember "hands across America?" We proposed to the organizers that the next one should have been "hands to the moon" but they didn't buy it. I'll bet a lot of you are too young to remember Woodstock, LSD, and all we had back when I was young. People thought nothing of taking drugs to escape reality, so much so that some even tried to fly out the windows of tall buildings just like Superman (they never told you about the ones who made it though, just the ones who didn't.) Just for old times sake how about one chorus of Kumbaya, c'mon everyone, lets sing to save the planet, Kumbaya my lord, Kumbaya.....
