A cross archbishop speaks out
The Archbishop of York has waded into the debate about BA and the wearing of cross necklaces. Dr John Sentamu says BA's policy is "".
Setting aside this particular issue, it's interesting to see Archbishop Sentamu taking the lead yet again on a matter of public controversy. He recently expressed concern that Christianity was being marginalised in Britain's public life, and has giving leadership on issues such as global warming and global poverty. One might wonder why the second most senior Anglican prelate is taking the lead on these kinds of issues, rather than the Archbishop of Canterbury himself. Perhaps this is a "good cop, bad cop" strategy? Or is Rowan Williams too busy working on Anglican and ecumenical issues to focus on British public debates?

Rowan Williams has lost it. Sentamu knows how to connect with the public. He picks his issues carefully and puts himself positively in the headlines on a regular basis. Rowan is either draged into the headlines against his will, or appears there by accident. Time for a switch of archbishops?
With respect to Archbishop Sentamu, I'd be appalled to be greeted at the check-in desk by a clerk wearing the cross he's pictured with above.
Archbishop John is my type of minister, a shepherd, a man that has lived life at the coal face of human experience, between life and death, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to suffering and bearing his cross, he doesn’t pontificate from a ivory tower like most Christian ministers do, he speaks from his heart and his experience of real life, he knows his Parish and the people that live in it, and their problems. I wish there were more like him instead of the wishy washy, watery plastic type of clergy which are so prevalent in our pulpits today. He’s a man with prophetic has vision.
