Salmond has good right to be confident, Labour is looking very very shaky over the past few months, I voted for SNP myself - being 23 and feeling that none of the other parties had anything to offer the youth of the nation.

What impact will voter turnout have on predicted results.

Will an increase in of voters benefit any particular party...

Ihave just seen Alex Salmond on TV tonight and he seems to be going Smug again. I think we should be afraid very afraid.

Well Im in work doing a nightshift working for the downtrodded nhs etc etc. Bored out of my skull so will be leaving notes all night. Im hoping for a few surprises seeing some bigwigs getting beat would be lovely.

I mistakenly voted with just and 'X' on the second ballot paper for the council elections...even tho i did read and i did know about the 1,2,3,4 etc options.

will my vote on this ballot paper, using just a single 'X' still be counted....i only voted for one candidate by placing a single 'X' against their name.

I think there may well be many others who have done the same and i'd hate to think these votes of the people will not be counted by the new electronic machines...

hope for SNP in Kilwinning and North Ayrshire was disgusted with labour and todays record but the Sun's noose cover was good as I heard it was driving more people to the SNP I hope so with a good campaign.

Steve Johnston causes me to despair if the SNP get into power. Rolling out the "no smoking" ban in Scotland before doing so elsewhere? Rubbish. This was a home-grown measure, based on the will of the general population. In other words, just the kind of thing an independent Scotland would do!
Scotland was copying the successful measure in Ireland, and Wales copied Scotland. England can do what it likes.

I find it strange that none of the "lesser" parties have had little, if any, mention from the ±«Óãtv.

I seriously hope that the big 4 get a serious fright - not only to illustrate the strength of feeling about the similarity of the main parties out there and their willingness to do behind-doors deals - but also because many of the "lesser party" candidates are equally capable of governance.

The urnout seems low given it was a lovely day.

And it will be interesting to see how many spoilt papers we have, given the bizarre decision to have 3 ballot papers each with a different system.

Craig Wright -- one X on a Council ballot should be treates as a valid first preference. More than one X would be a spoiled paper.

I saw 5 people when I was voting and 4 of them were uncertain how it all worked!

Steve - you will find that the smoking ban is actually an EU imperative - which is being implemented thoughout - Lithuania implemented it within 18 months of joining. It was certainly not a test for Westminster.....and an independent Scotland under SNP would have many many more new EU initiatives implemented before the rest of the UK.
The Smoking ban was a great move - I think I'm getting lung cancer just from watching Deirdre on Coronation Street lately, she smokes so much. (Wonder if I could sue for passive smoking??? ;-))
