Introducing... Social Steve

Post categories:

Steve Saul | 17:00 UK time, Thursday, 9 September 2010

Hello.

My name's Steve and I'm the lucky so-and-so who's been invited to contribute to ±«Óãtv Comedy's social media stuff.

Have you spotted an 'SS' on the end of and wondered what it means? They're my initials. It's from me.

During my time at ±«Óãtv Comedy I'm hoping to create a lively community of people who are passionate about all things funny on Aunty Beeb.

My background? I started out as a Question Writer for The Weakest Link way, way back when Anne Robinson still had wrinkles.Ìý

Sample question?Ìý

Q. According to the title of their 1982 UK Number One hit single... what at 'E' is the name of the girl that Dexy's Midnight Runners wanted to "come on"?Ìý

A. Eileen.

No. I didn't last long. Though I'm still very proud to have the unique distinction of having been the weakest link on The Weakest Link's production team.Ìý

Since then I've had more success (i.e. not been sacked) by working as the online community manager and social media producer for small, performance-based shows like The Apprentice, Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor.

So what do I find funny?

is the first truly successful interactive live stand-up show. It's the only night of its kind to really nail the concept. I suspect it's the future... but I also said that about Spokey Dokeys, so who knows?Ìý

My top Desert Island comedy flicks are Airplane!, The Man With Two Brains and This Is Spinal Tap. Oh and Ferris Bueller's Day Off... and Evil Dead II... and Shaun of the Dead and... ok, you get the point.

It's impossible to list all my favourite TV comedy shows but at the moment I'm loving Ideal, Him and Her, Family Guy, Sorry I've Got No Head, Shooting Stars and Would I Lie To You?Ìý

As a big fan of radio comedy, I love the way that The Now Show has embraced Twitter. Social media isn't just tacked on as a token gesture, fans can now actually contribute to the programme in a meaningful way. It's something I'd like to see more of, particularly on topical shows like The News Quiz and Have I Got News For You.

Watch this space for news about Ask Rhod Gilbert and Nevermind The Buzzcocks...

So that's enough about me, let's get talking.

What do you want to get out of ±«Óãtv Comedy's and profiles?

Social Steve Saul will be a-tweetin' and a...updatin' with us for the next three weeks. Do say hello!

So will all view points (positive and negative) be taken on board....Looking at ±«Óãtv Comedy on FB there doesn't appear to be a lot of listening going on by ±«Óãtv Comedy.

Welcome and good luck with this. Sounds like you've got a nice old job there.

This interests me! In the Venn diagram of our interests, SS, I'd say we overlap considerably. Now what?

Personally I'd like the chance to share reviews with a community of likeminded individuals, but the ±«Óãtv website doesn't really do forums does it. Not sure if / how it would work via facebook. Ball's back in your court, Steve, what do you want to do?

  • Comment number 4.

Well, if you want to achieve anything of note with your time at the bbc, you will have series 1 - 17 of Nevermind the Buzzcocks made available for purchase on DVD or to watch on iPlayer.
