Chart Report - 09/03/08

Post categories:

1 - Duffy - 'Mercy'

DuffyChartSnipe: Well, what a year it has been for chart action so far, eh? I mean here we are, it's the 11th week of 2008. That means a possible 10 (or 11, depending on when you start counting your weeks from) different No.1 hit singles. And do you know how many we have actually had? Just two. This one and Basshunter. And if tabloid reports are to be believed, the rest of the year belongs to the Beatles, once their back catalogue hits the download shops. Shall we make an appointment to meet up in the year 2009, and resolve to do a lot better then? (FM)

2 - H Two O Ft. Platnum - 'What's It Gonna Be'
H Two O ft. PlatnumChartSnipe: I tell you, this has got to be the most credible thing any former member of Steps* has put their name to since...well, ever! I mean I don't know if the name is H Two like Terminator 2, and the fella in this band is some kind of H sequel, or if it's the real H himself. Either way, respect is due for such a radical change in musical direction. Whatever next, Lisa Scott Lee goes metal? (FM)

=======================

3 - Nickelback - 'Rock Star'
NickelbackChartSnipe: Proof, if proof were needed, that all you need to do to inject a bit of interest into your flagging moose-rock career (it's all in the bellowing, see) is to unveil a hitherto hidden sense of humour. Of course, once the door to smiley pastures is opened, it's hard to fully shut it again. Give it a couple of years and they'll be doing over-earnest, mooey versions of Weird Al Yankovic's greatest hits. What fun! (FM)

=======================

4 - OneRepublic - 'Stop And Stare'

OneRepublicChartSnipe: What was the last thing or person that made you stop and stare? The Girls Aloud video? Jared Leto taking his vest off? A display of Ben 10 stuff in a toy shop window? The very latest in portable music and video technology? Some amazing grafitti? Mine was yesterday morning, when I spotted a headline from a Cornish newspaper about a change to car park fees in a local town. It read "St Agnes Will Pay For Parking", which just makes you think about a pious-looking lady in chain-mail, fishing in her purse for change. Or is that just me? (FM)

=======================

5 - Taio Cruz ft. Luciana - 'Come On Girl'
Taio CruzChartSnipe: It's pronounced "Thai-oh", apparently. Which means his entire name sounds like a swanky boating holiday where you just travel around the coast of Phuket surprising people. Do you think he knows? (FM)

=======================

The entire Top 40 is right here...

* Not really. Just messing!

    Or, or... a pious-looking lady in chain-mail gets a fine from the council for leaving her cloud on double-yellow lines.
