The Fray - 'Over My Head (Cable Car)'
I'm sorry, this won't do AT ALL. I mean, it's all very well releasing a nice big meandering piano-led friendly-thon, the kind of song which will undoubtedly be soundtracking some US teen drama right now, but why would you release a song about something being OVER YOUR HEAD, and then subtitle it CABLE CAR, if you're in a band called the FRAY, and THEN make it a nice big meandering piano led....well, you get the picture...WHY DO IT?
I mean, a cable car over someone's head, which is suspended by something which is starting to fray...that's the most exciting moment of an otherwise quite boring film about snowboarding, isn't it? So why isn't this song more tense? Why haven't the band thrown away their trademark niceness and gone all out for the scraped strings, spiralling twinkles and general bum-emptying, stomach-churning madness of a full movie score?
Or, failing that, why didn't they call the song 'On My Rocking Chair (My Old Teddy)' and then the Fray thing could be about the little love-worn patches which inevitably crop up on a much-loved toy from your childhood. That would certainly suit the music better.
As it is, we're left with the fading ashes of a shadow of a dream of an amazing audio-visual moment, and the distinct impression that this song is just 'How To Save A Life' sped up by a very small amount.
Hardly going to break box office records, is it?

In some places it sounds exactly like 'How to save a life'! It's not a bad song though, but 'How to save a life' is way better.
It's not too bad, I think the rating is about right. Its a good follow up to How To Save A Life. At first I really liked this song, but after a while it wears off, because it's nothing too special.
hee hee i like 'How To Save A Life'....not sure 'bout this though. It might grow on me I suppose. I saw the video for 'How To Save A Life' again today and I nearly cried. AGAIN. It always does, and I can't help it. I suppose I'd better go, people are probably very very bored of me by now.....sniff.....:(

This song sounds exactly like the other one, but because they released this first in the US, I've heard it a million times since last year. As far as I'm concerned, I could never hear it again and live very happily.
And I would really like to hear the song about the cable car over someone's head with the line fraying. That would be fantastic!
Why is everybody Criticizing this song just because of the name of it and because it sounds like their last song, look at all the other bands around they all have their own style which make their music sound the same, everybody loves westlife and all their songs sound the same!!!!!!!!
if the 1st song didnt remind me of emotional trauma, then i might have liked it.. unfort. all their songs will. and i hate it! Aside from that it is just whiny american soft rock is it not?
I love the Fray and I personaly think all their songs are great, my fave is 'How to save a life' I am learning it for gcse
