Sudden And Impromptu Album Review - Maximo Park
OK, here's the full story. A couple of weeks ago, we ran a review of the - frankly amazing - new single from Maximo Park (it's here, if you missed it), and pointed out that it's quite a piece of work.
This prompted Beth, from the - also frankly amazing - ±«Óãtv Slink site to ring in, just to say that she SO agrees with the review, and to rave about how brilliant the band's second album is.
"Hang on, lady!" we said, "you can't just RING a blog and TALK to it. You need to send us a Web 2.0 posting via hotmail, or compose a lengthy phone poem using predictive text, or make a massive smiley out of lots of little smileys on instant messenger, or find some other way to translate your analogue over-excitement into cutting-edge digital technology. So THINK ON! OK?"
And to her eternal credit, she did. So, here's what she sent us.
BETH'S MAXIMO PARK ALBUM REVIEW IN FULL:
You know a song’s great when you listen for a bit, turn it up, think it’s a bit loud, acclimatise, then crank it up even more. This is what all of Maximo Park’s second album ‘Our Earthly Pleasures’ will do for your brain.
Call me sadistic, but I love that lead singer Paul (and you don’t get many lead singers called Paul) really does sound like he’s suffered. But then, mental torture for him = rock out for us. Hopefully more earth-shattering relationship breakdowns are on their way in ’07.
Don't get me wrong, this album is totally uplifiting. First single ‘Our Velocity’ is a taster for the whole thing, but there are more summer-picnic-sounding ones mixed in too. Packed with trademark Maximo driving guitars and drums, and choruses that make you feel like G-force is pulling your face back (but without the unflattering look that goes with it), this is probably even better than their debut album.
Although we did find it resulted in severe bouts of air–drumming. BE WARNED.

Well, Beth I think its a bit of a din to be honest, and Fraser or Nickie L, I'll be off for a cut at the hairdressers.
In addition to "the one I made earlier", to Maximo Park if they read these "insignificant comments" your music is not too bad I would possibly give it 3.5 if there were such a star rating.
