Beyonce & Shakira - 'Beautiful Liar'
I can't help thinking a trick has been missed in putting together these two and not trying to have some fun with their names. I mean, what kind of name for an act is 'Beyonce & Shakira'? A boring one, that's what. Surely 'BeSha' would be better, or 'Shabey Onkira'? C'mon, 'Shabey Onkira' would be amazing! Or 'Beki Shayora', or 'CeSha Yon BeKira'? No? Just me then...
Anyway, whatever they call themselves...there's something weird going on in this song. Not the unconventional instrumentation. That's only weird if you've never heard flamenco guitars or mournful Spanish violins or Turkish flutes or bellydance music or 'Toxic' by Britney Spears or anything other than the blandest Western pop.
No the weird thing is that everyone involved in the making of this song seems to be under the impression that if you take one sexy lady, add another sexy lady, get them to wriggle around doing a sexy bellydance and bend over a lot, and add smoke and heavy breathing, what you get is THE SEXIEST SEXINESS EVER.
What you actually get is the anti-climactic sound of two competing show-ponies with asthma nudging each other out of the way, so they can get more time at the musical feedbag.
Confusing, isn't it? Maybe they just sort of cancelled each other out?

I think this is a VERY sexy song, and the video ain't bad either !
And I think it's totally different from the Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston duet where they REALLY were competing like 2 show-ponies striving for more attention than the other.

Beyonce & Shakira in this video they are both good singers and both have strong singing voices and it just doesnt work as it sounds like they are both compeating against each other to be the better singer. i aslo agree with him about the name they called off called themselves something different, i think that the name sounds boring and needs living up a bit. i dont like the song that much and i think the video is boring.

It's crap, wrapped in whine, dipped in yuck. So much potential, but ultimately a huge disappointment.
I think it had potential to be awesome! But somewhere the writing of the lyrics went down hill and the over bearing big headedness of the girls having to say their names over and over again spoiled it. 'Shakiria, Shakiria, Beyonce, Beyonce'. Yeah okay we get it, we know your names... *rolls eyes*

I've heard this opinion a lot, but I think it's a thoroughly enjoyable song (apart from the horrible Beyonce Beyonce bit - urghhh). It's like a megastar overload! And they're not competing - they're just two completely beautiful people with brilliant voices in the same song. It may be too much for some people, but I think it's quite a nice, sexy tune. Not the most amazing thing ever, but surely worth 3 or 4 stars.
Yeah. I have to agree. Their voices don't blend well at all: both strong, but Shakira's is far too individual against Beyoncé's creamy but, in comparison, bland soprano. Also, sorry to come over all girly and shallow for a moment, but Shakira looks better than Beyoncé in the video. That's not to say Beyoncé looks awful, but her clothes make her look not only wide-hipped, but short, and she's taller than Shakira (okay, I know that's not difficult, but come on). Doesn't her mother design all her clothes? What was going on here?
Shakira's got better clothes, she sings better, and frankly, sweetie, she dances better. Ho hum.
to be honest i like the both of them and you no what i think b sounds great on this and shakira has a voice that i find annoying after a while she sounds like shes her vocals are comming from the bottom of her stomach
