Tenth anniversary of Dee Dee Ramone's passing this week, at his home in Los Angeles. Heroin overdose, since you ask.ÌýTheÌýRamones weren't like The Beatles - they didn't have a Quiet One, a Serious One, a Pretty One. They had four DumbÌýOnes.ÌýExcept they weren't dumb. Dee Dee, despite his public utterances, wrote some of their best songs, came up with the 'They'reÌýAll CalledÌýRamone' concept andÌýshouted out the '1 - 2 - 3Ìý - 4' before each song. Sadly missed, as indeed are Joey and Johnny. Also tonightÌýthe very first recording made by Echo And The Bunnymen, without a drummer, and without many guitars , by the sound of things. Historical curio, rather than must hear record.

He is great now. I met him a few years ago when he played a benefit gig in Canterbury and he was lovely (and played One Chord Wonders!)

He wrote a great one for the Chesterfield Kings called "Baby Doll" and which you can find on their third album "Don't Open Til Doomsday" from '87 on the New Rose label. He even guested with the Kings at a rare UK show at about the same time at Dingwalls in Camden Town. A great gig. Sticking with the theme of the Ramones and 60s garage, Miriam Linna (Norton Recods) posted a picture on her Facebook account last week of a young Joey Ramone (Jeff Hyman) sat behind the drum kit of a band called Intruders circa '67. Maybe he was just hanging out with mates and fancied a bash at the drums. Picture at:

If TV Smith was challenging in the early 1980s then I feel a little less guilty about our fall out. The Undertones could be fairly challenging as well, though. Especially in a Transit minibus when sweets were stolen. And the photo of Joey Ramone playing the drums is brilliant. Thanks n5. Or is it Steve ?
