Episode 7 Debrief: Who Shot Bambi?

Ben Rawson-Jones, Blog Editor | 16:46 UK time, Thursday, 16 June 2011

Well, nobody really shot Bambi – and Susan dodged Jim's boardroom bullets too. As Lord Sugar pointed out, it was the baby deer's mother who perished – as did Glenn's hopes of winning The Apprentice after the Magazine task. The fact that 'Poor Glen' (sic) was trending worldwide could be an indication of what many felt about his dismissal...

There will be a debate on how Lord Sugar was dismissive of the "engineer" and I am certain he will get heavy critical chatter of what was his personal experience choice. Engineers do nurture excellent disciplines and skill sets but Lord Sugar was not critical of the engineering profession but of his personal experiences with them and it would appear they failed him!!! As far as the task was concerned the failure of Jim was remarkable right from the start; from the choice of a very poor title of magazine (Hip Replacement) to his low negotiation skills of rates. Further proof of Jim's tenacity capabilities was evident with what Lord Sugar called "bullshit". This was made very clear when the impeccable and honest Nick Hewer made very valid objections to Jim's poor showing. If you'll rewind the tapes on how Jim retained criticism from Nick Hewer and Lord Sugar in his head and then in the ensuing five minutes he covered every angle on his various huge mistakes with clever sentences that only the very intelligent would know as "bullshit". It's pleasing that Susan Ma is still making strong points in the tasks despite the huge brigade of hatred from the likes of Zoe and Jim. Overall it was one of those tasks where Glenn or Jim or Zoe (her title idea!) could have have got fired but one of the three did and that is correct indeed in my opinion.

I think the message was pretty clear when Lord Sugar said that he had yet to meet an Engineer that could turn his hand to business. To be fair we Engineers aren't very good at marketing ourselves, but the statement is completely untrue.

Engineers are responsible for the infrastructure that shapes the modern world and we need to understand good business otherwise our ideas would never get off the ground and the economy wouldn't move forward.

There is definitely a recurring theme in that Lord Sugar will never hire an engineer on the grounds of being too technical, practical, imaginative, instinctive, commercially aware, financially literate, able to look at the really big picture and take a gamble, wait... I think I just described the perfect candidate.

The thing is that engineering is just too interesting that people don't want to leave a field that is so dynamic and inspires real passion. Therefore I would like to challenge the ±«Óãtv / the apprentice team, even Lord Alan himself to set an engineering task and then we'll see if any of the candidates are good enough to face a real business challenge?

    Regards

    Peter

Indeed, it was a totally untrue statement as four out of the five wealthiest people in the world (according to Forbes) come from an Engineering background.

Darth Jim is clearly invincible. Did the right person go? Absolutely not, I’ll wager the cab driver had Jim’s address programmed into his SatNav and would have been as surprised as we were to see Glen emerging from the building. Am I sorry that a travesty of justice occurred? Not really, despite the fact the Glen looked very nice with his top off(!) Darth Jim is far better telly!

    2 things
First - Mag title should have been "50 something". As a vain 60 something I'd look at it. Hep Replacement was truly awful.
Second - has Lord Sugar ever looked at the number of CEOs in Germany who have an engineering background compared with the number of accountants who head UK companies? Could be a lesson here for all of us!

Lord Sugar stated that it is still remaining to meet an engineer to put hands in business. In my opinion, that s not true completely as engineers design the whole infrastructure for business setup.
and Many of Engineering background guys has proved themselves as a great business person also.Facebook owner Mark mark zuckerberg as well as MS ceo Bill Gates are great examples for this. This guys are always a news attraction for medias and channel.
I don't think still something is remaining to justify this.
