Hydrogen as a renewable resource

Description

Hydrogen is a colourless and odourless gas. When combined with oxygen in a fuel cell it can generate electricity that can be used to power vehicles, operate tools or heat houses.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this energy source. They could also note that at the moment it is not a renewable resource but hopefully will be in the future. Students could be asked to consider why the development of renewable energy sources is important, and to consider the implications for the future if we do not develop this kind of technology.

Working in small groups, students could research other renewable energy sources such as wind, solar or wave, and consider their advantages and disadvantages. They could then hold a classroom debate on which energy source has the greatest potential in the future.
