Did Hitler always want war?

Description

Following Hitler’s rise to power, he delighted Germans by snubbing the Treaty of Versailles. After the invasion of Czechoslovakia, and then Poland, German aggression became clear. The youth indoctrination meant that Germany had many strong and committed young men to wage a war of aggression.

Classroom Ideas

Debate whether Hitler did want war from the start. Produce a timeline of events leading up to the outbreak of war. For each event discuss whether it suggests a plan for war or a different aim. Students should provide evidence for their judgements
