A mother's forgiveness for the killers of her son

Description

The story of the racially-motivated murder of 18-year-old Anthony Walker is told through news footage and the testimony of his mother and sister. They describe their feelings of pain, loss and resentment, but they also speak of their Christian faith and beliefs on forgiveness. They describe how forgiving the murderers is what Christ teaches them to do, but it has also helped to release their feelings of anger, bitterness and revenge.

Classroom Ideas

Students could consider the extent to which the victim’s mother and sister’s views on forgiveness are influenced by their Christian beliefs. The class could compare Christian attitudes to sin and forgiveness with concepts and beliefs from other religions. How are they similar and different?
