Use the clip to explain how William Wallace’s smaller Scottish army defeated English forces at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Consider in more detail why events went so badly for the English. Consider the pressure Warenne was under from Hugh de Cressingham to cross the bridge and take a decisive and quick victory. Pupils could discuss the impact of the battle on both sides, including the death of Andrew Murray and switching of some Scottish nobles from support of the English to allegiance with the Scottish resistance.
